On one of our regular walks, the one we take when we're being lazy, and the dogs have already had two walks, has a fairly large "pond". By this time in summer, it is pretty much covered with some plant, which makes it hard to tell that there is any water underneath it at all. Since there is an itty bitty little stream that empties into it, I take the dogs there to walk them through the water and cool them off. The dogs like it there too, because there is tons of grass near the shore that is unmunched and unmowed.
We were lounging around on the shore, when Khan decided to launch himself into the water. In pursuit of ducks, which he has never chased before. The look on his face was priceless, as the Urth moved under his feet, and he found himself neck deep in water. To add insult to injury, Tubby made a big splash as he jumped in, and all that water landed right back on his face. In a panic, he splashed his way back to shore, looking much like a disgruntled porcupine.Pan's policy in life seems to be to run in the general direction of whatever Khan shows any interest in. If his ears perk up, she runs towards whatever he is looking. Needless to say, she jumped right in behind him, not having the first clue what she is doing or what she is chasing. By the time we had picked ourselves off the floor, laughing at Khan, she had struck out on her own, in pursuit of the ducks, and was fast turning out into a little black and white streak.

If Rajesh hadn't panicked (OMG, SHE'S DROWNING! Go in after her!), I would've let her go a little longer. As it turned out, I called her, and she turned right around and paddled back. Then proceeded to run around like a maniac, rubbing her face on the grass, trying to get all that yucky water off her.

Today, the car smells like a swamp. So does the garage. The dogs don't, because they promptly got bathed as soon as we got home.

Sounds like fun! Well, not the smelly car part. But the dogs in the water part sounds hilarious.

That is so cool to have floors at the park!

FWIW, after being in the river (any river), both Rocky and the car smell like the Swamp Thing, though it goes away after he dries out no bathing required of course, Khan fur is significantly different from Rocky's.

Matt. Rocky's a Dog.

great story, sounds like fun, thanks for sharing!
I wasn't going to wait to find out. I may have, if he hadn't come out dragging assorted flora, and his light colored fur so green.

Picky, picky! Okay, so it was the ground, not the floor. And I must've gotten up waaay too early (Why yes, that's my story), 'cause it took a whole 10 minutes to figure out what the hell you were talking about.

Useless beast never does anything interesting when there is a camera around.

Hey, at least he didn't come out dragging fauna. My friend's dog Jura (www.huxleyspringers.com) was out swimming then suddenly grabbed something. Ginger was so proud, "look, he found a stick in the water and he's fetching it!" her vision ain't so great, he dragged out a very dead large red slider turtle. Yum yum.
