i need to get a decent digital camera. i've got a similar problem with elliott, because he's a dark brindle with a black mask. he just doesn't show up well in photos.

After much research as to our needs and wants, we chose the Canon A70 Powershot.
I've been absolutely delighted with it.
Here's some more completely off topic photos:

The catch is here:

Night photos without a tripod do not work very well. It has a night mode, but you can see the mess it makes without the tripod.

brindle dogs are hard to photograph.

yep. i've found that the best place to take elliott's picture is outside, against green grass.
for every good one i get of Manu, i delete about forty crappy ones. yes, i spend a lot of time taking pictures.

heh. that's why i have 60+ rolls of film waiting to be developed. and, also, why i need to get a better digital camera.

how does it do in interior low-light conditions?

With the auto setting, beautifully.
The picture of Taffy just groomed was done inside
in low light, but I had the camera set in the wrong mode so that one was operator error.
All these other pictures were taken in interior low-light conditions in while the camera was set on auto mode.

how cute! she looks like a Dr. Seuss dog! she's a Cocker x Dachshund, isn't she? she doesn't look at all like what i imagined. i was picturing a Doxie body with spaniely fur.

Taffy looks so much like Murphy it makes me want to cry. There was a dog running outside of Dumas, Texas back and forth on the road on our way home. Steve opened the door to try to get it to come to him. It looked just like Murphy but with much more white on the chest. We almost had us another dog. Though that would
have been theft and not right. Even though I doubt the little dog lived another hour. Emotion: sad
Anyway whatever Taffy is she sure looks like our
Murphy looked. I loved that little imp. I miss
him tons. There is a big hole in my heart with the loss of Murphy. I guess there always will be.

Here's another very old picture I just put up with Darcy and Taffy, when Taff was just a pupster.
As you can see, Taffy is a lab/x.
Ahem.
It's a very poor picture, but the other ones I went looking for are still in tif format and I haven't converted them yet.

HeLLO! Do you know nothing about your very own dog? Taffy is obviously pure lab. She is black, but is not a Newfoundland. QED. Get a CLUE, people!

Oh right. I forgot about that part.
Ahem...
Taffy is a pure blooded, bonified, chow eating LAB! Watch her retrieve! Watch her go out in the rain!
Watch her roll in the mud puddles!
(Excuse me, I have to quit now because my fits of laughter are disturbing the neighbors and the local wild life.)

I was doing watering stuff outside and the dogs, who had been inside all night, decided that they would bug me to water them instead of the plants. You could tell which one is the lab mix. Three dogs were trying to lick the water off the ground without getting so much as a single drop on a single whisker while one was biting at the water and running around looking like she'd been swimming. She was determined to make me look like I'd been swimming, too. Damn outdoorsy types!
