Sally,
I hope the KD helps and Tasha can go ahead with the surgery. Are IV fluids for a few days an option?

We're going to look into that on Monday. IV or maybe subQ - I've joined the k9kidneydiet list and one of the first things they send you is an article on the importance of daily subQ fluids. DH can easily do subQ or IV. Tasha is in so much pain today that we will probably be changing our approach to this. We can't allow her to continue in so much pain she can hardly move around, and the renal failure is going hamper what pain meds we can give her. Might as well hydrate her for a few days and then go ahead with the surgery; worst that happens is that her kidneys shut down and she dies, but with the current pain levels we'll be looking at euthanasia soon anyway.

but with the current pain levels

We're so sorry to read this. We can only imagine how difficult this is for all of you.
We hope for some relief for Tasha and you.

Crap, Sally. I know she's a special dog, and I'm really sorry.

This so totally sucks. Poor Tasha and poor you. I suppose with the renal problems pain meds are an iffy deal too.

Yes, especially the ones she's been on. Current plan is for her to have a repeat in-house SMAC on Wednesday; if the numbers have come down, vet may do surgery Thursday. If not, he'll try subQ fluids, then IV fluids if necessary to 'drag them down', as he put it.
