Tasha had her left front leg amputated very early Tuesday morning. She came through the surgery fine and came home Tuesday evening (we'd have preferred her to stay until Wednesday, but vet said she'd do better at home - they had to sedate her Monday to keep the IV in). Wednesday and Thursday she ate very well and seemed to be making slow progress, but today she isn't eating, is very restless and is having a lot of trouble getting around. We're limited in the amount of pain meds we can give her because of her kidney status. I guess things are still pretty much a toss-up; I certainly felt more optimistic yesterday than I do today.
Thanks, everyone, for your crossed paws and fingers and good wishes.

I think recovery from surgery doesn't tend to be linear; there are always bad days mixed with the "improving" days, and hopefully today is just one of those. I know it must be miserable for you to see her in pain and to worry about her recovering. I hope she is back on the upswing soon. My thoughts are with you.

Heh. I've had several surgeries in the past few years, including brain surgery, so I know that and wouldn't worry about a setback like this except that we don't really know what's going on with her kidneys. If she doesn't eat and doesn't drink, that's not going to help her kidney status at all. Also, I gave her a pain pill an hour ago, and she's agitated, panting and whining, and she hasn't done that since she got home.
Whatever happens will happen. We felt we had to give her a chance, knowing it might not succeed.

My best wishes go out to you and yours. All things that can be crossed are.

PS - Do you know how cruel it is to drop a piece of information like that (...brain surgery...) in a thread like this?? Totally removes the right to make smart-alecky comments.

No it doesn't - - anything worth living through is subject to joking about!
I'm pretty sure that Tasha is in acute renal failure. Unfortunately, our vets are at lunch until 2 pm, and DH doesn't want to try to get her in anywhere else, as he doesn't think an hour will make any difference.
