Are these bamboo sleeves safe for the bird? Anyone know?

Mama Bear, I also buy the woven palm shredder strips ... find a cheap source for them please post it. Fred

Are they like palm fronds? The long leaves from palm trees? My family is in Florida and could probably send them to me.Mama Bear

They are about as wide as a narrow belt and are woven from what looks like folded over palm fronds. It is like a fabric that they can pull the weave apart.
The're called SHREDDERS
AllNatural Woven Palm Leaf Bird Toy.
It is a 30 foot roll.
They can be seen here.

I get them at Petsmart.

Ah ok, nice, thanks. Emotion: smile
This is such fun. Now we can give the little guy a piece of paper and he gets all entertained on our shoulder with it. Emotion: smile

but I can't imagine that news print would be good for birds. In fact I'd give them some brown unbleached natural paper, if I could find some. - Mama Bear

You can always buy rolls of butcher paper at Sam's Club or on line. I would not use toilet paper rolls, because of possible E. Coli contamination.

I've had to make sure my bird is not around a remote or the buttons will be gone. I've thought about taking a remote and removing the insides and replacing the buttons with some kind of treat.
I wouldn't give them any string toys. Birds have hung themselves with them. About 4 years ago I found my lovebird hanging from a string toy. Luckily I found her seconds after she became tangled. Never used one again.

Also, if your bird is a female, herr hormones may kick in if she has a lot of paper to shred. She may begin making nests, and eventually start laying eggs which can become dangerous for her (egg binding).

Give ti to her occasionally, and then remove the shredded paper from the cage after she's done with it. Don't even leave it under the grate.

Not sure what you mean. We have ropes in the cage for climbing on, but they're thick poly ropes, not string.

No we're pretty sure he's a male.

Grampa always said that back on the farm they had a sure-fire way of telling whether a bird was male or female: You wait till the bird is hungry and throw down some seed if he eats it right away, it's a male. If SHE eats it right away, it's a female.
Grampa was kinda funny in the head, they say...
