After 10 years, my now 12 yo Explorer is finally being retired before it actually dies. It has been terminally ill for some time now, and it's the kindest thing to do.
We've welcomed home a new purebred from Honda - a Pilot. Hopefully it will be an easy keeper! Boy do things change in 12 years - the stuff that was "standard", at least on this model, is pretty amazing. Had to order a new rubber cargo tray to go under the crates (and I could fit standard 24" wide crates in, but already have my narrower side-by-side crates), but can use the one from the Explorer for now. I need to get rubber floor mats for the driver's side at least - my frequently muddy boots will trash the carpeted one.

All-in-all, I think the dogs will like their new vehicle. The one thing that it doesn't have, which I will miss, is the rear window opening on the hatch. Very few vehicles seem to offer that anymore, and it's something I have used a lot on the Explorer. The new Explorers still have it, but for the trim level I wanted, a new Explorer was much more expensive, so it wasn't worth it for a window!

The Subaru Outback is a nice vehicle as well and accomodates several animals (including my kids), at once Emotion: wink

ahhh - that's the million dollar question. DH says 2 dogs are the right number because that's the number of crates we can fit. I told him that the split rear seat folds nicely for a 3rd crate - no problem ;-D.

(Janet, I had a 14 week old GR here for a week, gone as of last night phew and I've decided that the next puppy to stay here will be my own. The 8 years since I got Rocky has made me forget about puppy trials and tribulations.)
Anyway, I've started thinking of a pocket dog, maybe for many of the same reasons Robin N did.
A small dog is not really like having a third real dog, is it?

Matt. Rocky's a Dog.

Way worse!
I'd love to get a little terrier (like a Norfolk or Norwich or Border) but that would just be too insane.
