I still remember the moment I first laid eyes on you. You were hiding at the bottom of an avery behind a handful of your feathered friends.

When the breeders took you out and handed you to me, I knew you and I were meant to be.

On the car ride home, I took you out of your box and I instantly fell in love. I could feel your little body trembling and your small feet holding my finger for dear life. I knew it was my job to care for you. I wanted to give you the best life I could, and that’s exactly what I did.

Funnily enough, Winston was actually toilet trained (the smart little cookie). As soon as he flew out of his cage he would prop himself on his perch and poop (he always expected a little snack immediately after).
Winston would come with me to exercise, he would nibble at my feet while I did yoga and dance around whist I attempted to do star jumps - we never had a dull moment.

He would insist on coming into the bathroom with me while I showered. On a few occasions I shut the door behind me, and Winston would sit at the bathroom door and screech until I opened it for him.

Leaving in the morning was a catastrophe. He would screech and follow me out the door and sit on my shoulder, probably hoping I would take him to work (believe me, I would’ve if i could’ve).

Winston and I were inseparable. When my phone rang, he would grasp it with his beak and throw it off the table. A subliminal message to show that I was his - haha (he was a jealous little boy that’s for sure.) In saying that, he was the sweetest little creature. His eyes would always sparkle, he would dance, he would fly around the house, he would come outside with me and never even think of flying away - he was my best friend. He would sit with me while I made dinner and cuddle into my neck while I watched TV. Winston loved cuddles. He would always hide under the blankets or sit right beneath my chin. He also had a strange a fascination with cardboard boxes.

It’s incredible how something as small as you, had the biggest personality I’ve ever known. You’ve left such a mark on me, Winston. Each time I close my eyes I see your feathery body waddling after me, like a puppy. You would spend hours just sitting with me, you were so content. You made me feel so special. You could’ve been anywhere, but you chose to be snuggled up against my face.

Saying goodbye to you was the hardest thing I’ve ever had to do. You were part of me. You were my baby. Not a minute went by that I didn’t think of you and what you were doing.

You gave me so much purpose and you made me feel so much love. Even though we couldn’t speak, I know we connected. You and I were two peas in a pod. There was something behind your glimmering eyes that I could feel. I have so much love for you, and no amount of time will ever erase that.

Winston, thank you. You brought me so much joy, so much laugher and you always gave me something to look forward too.

Now, the house is quiet, and the silence reminds me of you more than you’ll ever know.

You made this house a home, the way you would fly around and eat everything like you owned the place. You have left such a large hole in my heart and each time I think of you it’s harder to breathe.

I hope that you’re in a peaceful place looking down on me. I hope that you died knowing how much I adored you. You were my baby, and always will be.

I love you so much, Winston.
