It is me again. My tiel Oscar and I have been back on the road for a few weeks again. He is getting to be a real character. He recently added a new word to his vocabulary. He says "10-4". He also says hello in the morning when I climb up front.
He demands head scratches constantly. Some other truckers have seen him on my shoulder and stopped by, and he lets them scritch him.

He plays constantly, and eats like a horse. I hide millet sprays in hard to get spots, and he spends hours working for them. I've also been successful with some pellets, though he still prefers seed.

I guess I'm training him, because we have a trick going on. I let him perch on one finger and I sit the other about a foot away in front of him, and I say 'jump' and he'll jump from one finger to another repeatedly. He'll do it on command now.
Anyway, he is a real clown - just thought I'd post this. It may help a prospective tiel owner make a decision someday.
Later!
That's wonderful, Alan! Oscar sounds like a great pal Emotion: smile.

Oscar sounds like a joy, and it sounds like you're doing pretty well with him. Hiding the millet spray is a great thing to do, too. Keep trying with the pellets and try some fresh veggies, too.

When are you going to let him talk on the CB? ;-)

everything but the bird
Sure seems to me that you two were meant to be together. I just love these 'Road Updates'!

Alan,
I've been following your relationship with Oscar. I find myself wishing my favorite uncle had found a bird instead of cigarettes. (He was a trucker who died of lung cancer. Perhaps he would still be here today?) I used to have 'tiels, they are characters! I'm glad to hear that you have found a friend...

Hi there Alan, I may have missed it at the beginning of this tale, but I am wondering where you drive?
Are you in the US? or Canada?
Curious what kind of climate you drive in, and how Oscar and you are doing..
Sounds like you have a real gem of a buddy there!

It is me again. My tiel Oscar and I have been back on the road for a few weeks again.

You were "At home with my tiel" on 9-21-03 and now nine days later on 9-30-03 you've been on the road for a few weeks again. My weeks have seven days. How many days are in one of your weeks?
