Hi,
My dog (female) is 1.5 years old. We haven't been successful in taming her. I've tried everything I heard of, but still whenever we're not around she allows herself to poop & pee in our house.

We tried to shout on her, but it haven't proven useful since usually she poops & pees when we're not around so shouting a couple of hours after the deed isn't very effective.
We tried to give her prizes whenever she poops outside, but still, to no avail.
Any idea ? Are we too late ?
Thanks,

I'm no dog trainer and I may get my head handed to me for this post, but here goes.
Unless you actually catch the dog doing his business, saying anything to her all is a complete waste of time. She has no idea what she did wrong.
I have always used a crate to house break my dogs. I have found that to be the easiest and fastest.

Yes, and furthermore, even if you *do* catch her in the act, shouting at her is a really, really bad idea. It teaches the dog to be afraid to relieve herself in front of you. The last thing you want is a dog who sneaks off when she should be coming to you to ask to go outside.

Hey ASSHOWEL? Your own dog has been GRHOWELIN at your kid.

First, stop shouting at her. It is counterproductive.

Second, contain her when you are not home. A crate is usually an excellent tool for this. Make sure it is just large enough for her to stand up, turn around, and lie down. If it is too large, she may poop/pee in one corner of it. If it is too small, she won't be able to rest comfortably in it.
Third, when you are home, supervise the dog so that she cannot sneak off and have accidents. Every accident you allow her to have will undermine her housebreaking.
Fourth, you have to go outside with her at frequent, regular intervals, to start with. When she relieves herself, immediately praise her, give her a cookie, or do whatever it takes to let her know that you are overjoyed with what she's just done.

It may take some time, because you've inadvertently trained her to think that going indoors is okay. But, if you are consistent and patient about following those steps, she will become house trained.

You'd be better off ignoring the resident nutjob. His interest is in disrupting the group, not in coherent discussion. Most folks here have a pretty low tolerance for him and for those who insist on playing with him. If you can't resist the urge to reply to him, I'd recommend putting (Jerry) in the subject line. Otherwise, you'll end up in most people's killfiles.

Sorry I'll just ignore him from now on.
