We finally got him eating something. it will be a week tomorrow that we have had him, and today he has finally eaten. however he is not eating bugs. which is what i want. we took the advice of dabing turkey baby food on his nose and he is licking it off greedily. hopefully this will start him on the road to a full recovery.

i have posted some pix of him so that you guys can see the state he is in. even though i have had him for a week he looks just as emaciated as he did when i got him. the stuff on his snout is turkey baby food.

on the lighter side of things he is starting to display his personality. fiesty, but docile. he is almost like an old man that is to proud to admit he needs help. he is quite a bit bolder now than when we first got him. i feel that he still has plenty of spunk left in him. only time will tell now.
also i am mixing in a bit of Rep-Cal Phosphorus-Free Cal/w Vit.D3 ultra fine.
i am really hoping this will do it for him. any more advice would be greatly appreciated.
thanks,
john

I have heard that yogurt on the nose is good source of calcium. How could anybody let any creature get in that condition. too bad they don't enforce cruelty to animals.with reptile.
those mammals always sticking together. If it had fur the owner would at least have been charged a fine. Hope you are able to fatten him up. get superworm cut off the heads and squeeze the guts on his nose. gutload em for a couple days first. : P

I think that would depend on the quality of the yogurt. Do they print their calcium content on the label?

That's state-specific. In Washington state, ALL animals are protected from neglect as a form of cruelty. The person must simply be turned into the authorities.
The emaciation is probably late-stage heavy parasite load. A fecal would prove it. I have now seen a lot of young leos with heavy parasite loads.

Leopard geckos also like banana baby food. If you mix some powdered calcium with the the turkey or banana baby food there is also a vitamin supplement by the name of Nekto-Rep mixing this with baby food will help your gecko. I do't know if you have tried wax worm, my gcko seems to like these. Hope this helps, would like to know how he is doing.

Not all leopard geckos. I've had 5 different ones that hated fruit-flavored-anything so much they'd shake their head violently and wipe their open mouth on the floor to get the evil fruit poison out of their mouth.

OMG! That looks terrible.
Glad to hear you've got him eating. Make sure that you get plenty of fluids in him too. Kidneys and liver will be stressed by having to work after having so long off. Water will help them work less hard. It might be
worthwhile to take him to the vet and see if she thinks some sub-Q fluids are in order.
And I hate to be the huge pessimist, but I'd hate more for you to get your hopes way up and be crushed - don't be surprised if he doesn't make it. His little
body has been through an awful lot and even though he's eating now he may not recover.
It's wonderful that you're helping him and I wish you all the luck in the world. I hope that you'll be
successful, but do not blame yourself if he can't
be saved.
