There is a lovely brindle pitbull named Elmo in my office right now. My coworkers found him wandering outside and we are in the process of contacting his owner. Naturally he is quite dangerous and violent, why we're in constant danger of being whacked by his wagging tail.

He's really very gorgeous and I'm always amazed by how strong these pitties are. Also he was kind enough to get the zoomies which is not often seen in an office setting and was much appreciated.

Im very surprised (pleasantly) to hear a nice fluffy story about a Pit Bull.
They get such bad press. I believe that all dogs reflect thier upbringing and environment and with a good owner all dogs have the chance to be friendly and loveable. Did you manage to find Elmos owner?

Mostly, but if genetics didn't play a role what would people who breed do with their spare time?

Pitties do get bad press, but most of them are exceedingly friendly to people. This one instantly made friends with everyone in the office. I've actually never met a pit bull that wasn't friendly.

We did find him he lives right around the corner, as it happens. He's a student with lots of roommates, and thinks one of them must have left a door ajar while he (the owner) was at work.
I was sorry to see him go! It's nice to have a dog at the office.

I hope you'll rethink that. While upbringing plays a large role its not the sole reason a dog turns out well or poorly. There are some pretty messed up dogs owned & raised by some pretty good people and there are some pretty nice dogs owned & raised by some pretty cruel people. Then there's all the in-betweens.

And it won't and can't remove natural breed tendencies, such as that of many, if not most, Pit Bulls to fight with and sometimes kill other dogs. They are absolutely wonderful dogs - with PEOPLE.
Most of the people I know who really hate Pit Bulls do so because their dogs have been attacked by Pits owned by people stupid enough to think "it's all in how you raise them".

It's also how the media reports them. I know people who've never met a Pit Bull, but hate them.
