Kali's been sporadically vomiting over the past 24 hours. It's not tied to meals (happens any time) and has happened 4 times since yesterday afternoon. There is no warning that she's about to be sick. She'll be sitting there and suddenly up come the stomach contents no retching or warning at all. This morning we went to the vet who did an x-ray which revealed nothing. Vitals all good and no temperature. He gave her a good dose of anti-nausea medication but hours later she vomited again.

I called to report it and reconfirmed that he'd be calling me later with the blood tests results; if the blood is normal he would schedule a barium x-ray for the morning. When I got no phone call by 4:30 I called them but they already left for the day. So now I've decided that if she vomits again I'll take her to the emergency clinic.
Does anyone have any idea what could cause sporadic vomiting? I seriously doubt that she's eaten anything bad since she's never out of my sight and our property is fenced so no strange critters or their droppings could have gotten in. A medical book I have noted organ disease or diabetes.

There's a huge pile of things that could cause it, and you know that conjecture about it on Usenet tends to produce descriptions of worst-case scenarios. About once a year or so one or another of my dogs gets a similar case of the pukies with no explanation ever found. It lasts a couple of days and then is gone, but they're otherwise healthy (modulo Duncan's former IBD problem). It sounds like you're doing all the right things on the veterinary front.

Thanks for the quick reply, I actually just got a phone call from him stating that the blood work looks good. Probably just a stomach virus. You are right about scaring one's self with worst case scenarios all I could think about all day was kidney/liver failure.

That's good news, and it's wonderful that your vet will get back to you on a holiday.

Every time one of my dogs seems even slightly off I envision some nightmare health problems and agonizing decisions, and then the dog is fine the next day. I have to consciously concentrate on just taking it as it comes.
