To be a CGC evacuator.

there's an exam for that? IIRC Leah never took one.
I don't understand the controversy into which I have fallen: I absorbed it at my mother's tit: "You must never harm animals." Why is that so difficult to understand?

it's a nice concept, but i bet you no matter which side of any given AW fence you're on, the other side doesn't think it's in the business of harming animals, either. that's how these sorts of discussions turn from an exchange of ideas into a holy war.

a choaker was dangerous due to the poor dogs inability to defend hisself

the silliness of such a statement aside, why should his dog need to defend itself?
Chris is a dear man

i've no doubt of it.
I don't think slam dunking him when he asked a question is fair play.

being in pain is no excuse for saying hurtful things.

I don't understand the controversy into which I have fallen: I absorbed it at my mother's tit:

Oh, so your mother was a crackhead?
If so, that would explain a lot of your behavior here over the years, and, of course, you'd then have my deepest sympathies, Chris.

But that would also be all the more reason to seek professional help.

ASAP!
"You must never harm animals." Why is that so difficult to understand?

Sheesh.
I think I'm going to go outside now and "harm" a few more dogs (as Bill Clinton would say, "Because I can") while Chris procedes with his very public psychotic break.

I agree it isn't an excuse but it can be an unintentional motive or cause.

You must never harm animals is something that is very objective to a person. However, when applied to a group of people, you will always get a large number of opinions. It is all because of the word "harm"

What does it mean to you? What does it mean to me? What will it mean tomorrow or next week. This is a word that is very subjective.

Take this for an example on how we taught Moogli how to stop barking in the apartment.
He would bark, and then recieve an unpleasant correction. The more he barked, the more he was corrected. After a while, the incidences of barking decreased. Every now and then, he would bark some more, and would require more correcting.
My question to you is the following, are any of the following suituations really that different from one another:
1 - Moogli is a very soft dog and the slightest verbal correction shutshim down.
2 - Moogli doesn't like water and a squirt gun was used. Whenever hewould get aquirted, he would tuck tail and hide.
3 - Moogli is a pretty hard dog who shrugs off most verbal corrections. Abark collar was used to provide a burst of citronella spray every time he barked.
4 - Moogli is a pretty hard dog who shrugs off most verbal corrections. Abark collar was used to provide a loud buzz every time he barked.
5 - Moogli is a pretty hard dog who shrugs off most verbal corrections. Abark collar was used to provide a very brief shock every time he barked.

Note - This is of course assuming that, whichever option was used, it was done only after receiving proper instruction from a qualified trainer.

In all of the above cases, the correction is something that is unpleasant to the dog and could be interpreted by someone as doing harm.

Some people define even training a dog as doing it harm. "Breaking them of their natural habits" I believe is what they use. How is their opinion towards training any different from your opinion towards anything the training you prefer?
Chris, I am saying this from my heart. You have gone through hell over the past couple of weeks. No one is doubting that. Give yourself time to grieve. DOn't be throwing yourself full-bore back into the breach. Take some time off from your job at the shelter. Cut yourself off of all newsgroups for a couple weeks, months, whatever it takes. Spend time with those who love you until you can find your level once again.

Spare me your outrage, Gwen. I think Chris likes to idealize certain aspects of life. I just think he could use a good dose of REALITY.

And native Americans have no more right to this country than anyone else has.
In fact, they spent a good deal of their time taking it away from each other(and in very, very bloody ways), until others came along and took it away from them.
Such is life.

Sorry for the rant. I am sure you won't agree, but I had to say it non the less.

I know, Gwen.
Because you can't help yourself.
Neither can Chris.

I can't assess that from here. Besides I am not ... who has every right to most of this country IMO.

Spare me your outrage, Gwen.

Outrage? No outrage here. Just giving some facts.

I disagree. But that is neither here nor there.
In fact, they spent a good deal of their time taking it away from each other(and in very, very bloody ways), until others came along and took it away from them.

Big deal that was what they did and tribes all over the world have been doing similar for
centuries. So they have no right because they killed each other's tribes? Boy now
that is a new one I have never heard. Bloody ways. And the "white man" wasn't bloody?
Give me a break.
Such is life.

Yep exactly, blood shed is part of life when peoples are fighting for land. Seems like we have a lot of that going on in the ME right now and it isn't just people of the ME., either.

Whatever. If one can't bring up something that has been said that is disturbing to them then there is sure a problem.
Neither can Chris.

I am not here to judge this. I don't agree with some of what Chris has laid on the table. It still doesn't make me want to look down my nose at him for having his opinions.
Gwen
No kidding. Your statements, at the very least, are misleading. And last I heard, APDT only required membership dues.
