All I said was "you could ALSO find a PR based trainer, blah blah blah". It didn't OR, or INSTEAD OF.
As for PP trainers, I think it's a crock. Ignoring a behavior is a correction.
All I did was offer an alternative to the ecollar, ... loves to accuse me of follwing some "shining path" Emotion: smile

Killfile the altekokker. If he did accuse you of being a member of Senderia Luminosa because of your training choices ... have guessed, anyway). SL was a Maoist Peruvian terrorist group that murdered 10s of thousands of people. were right.

I'm using Google, so I can't killfile anyone. I have to wade through posts, including he who must not be named posts Emotion: smile

At any rate, the "altekokker"s opinions mean nothing to me, I just can't help but read his tirades.

no, you don't have to wade through them. you choose to do so.

i don't buy that you have no choice in the matter. apparently, his opinions mean enough to you that you are unwilling to ignore them.

if that's what you'd actually said, i doubt it would've been an issue. however, your original post A) implied that e-collar training would ultimately fail and B) that your method is intrinsically superior. it's the same sort of thing that Lucy got taken to task for.

My method of training spectacular recalls? The secret is to start with a collie - sticking around with me is very high on their daily to-do list.

Somehow you've stumbled onto my s33krit recall training method. The title of paper I wrote on it is: Recall: Get a Herding Breed . Coincidentally, that's also the entire text.

or, get a harriet. her recall is damnfine and her heel is (and has always been) even better. i'm finding that solo walking her is a very different experience than it was with two dogs. elliott's leash manners were acceptable, but not what i'd call good. harriet is better than good. when walking her, the leash actually gets in the way and is completely unnecessary. and, there's nothing like like looking down to see her smiling face tongue lolling happily looking back up at me.

I think that you're trolling. After all, Harriet is a Boxer and so doesn't have a recall. QED.

OK, I'll give you that. Boxers do a mighty fine smile.

Have to disagree with you there. Everyone knows that Boxers have springs for legs, and most of there moving is jumping up and down. She jumps up, gravity brings her down automagikally. Therefore, prefect recall.

the s33kr1t is to find one who refuses to go more than 20 feet away from you. HTH!
it's funny. i spent a lot of time worrying about keeping elliott's attention and reinforcing his recall and leash manners. harriet was usually along for the ride, so she became untrustworthy by association. that was unfair, because she's actually quite good. it's like i'm discovering that the dog i have is not the dog i thought i had. it's been a pleasant learning experience, and one that doesn't make me eager to add a second dog to the mix anytime soon.

that, they do. they even crinkle up their eyes.
