My Dalmatian loves car rides, but she's awfully noisy most of the time. She whines, whistles, and whinnies with her ears perked up, hardly taking a break even on a long trip. She does it more at night and on the highway, less when just driving around town.

Does this mean she's happy and excited, or that she's distressed?

PW: you're killfiled, so don't bother replying.

Probably excited. My Min. Dachshund does this and it means she rarely goes in the car. She will not shut up and it drives me batty. She is always wanting to get into the car and her tail goes a mile a minute, along with her vocal chords, so I know she's worked herself up into a state of high excitement rather than that of fear. For long car rides I have to medicate her.
