Nope... not OT.
For those of you who use a vapor steam cleaner to clean your cages: I LOVE my steamer but always got so frustrated trying to find the right size cloths, could not get the dumb things folded right, and they were forever falling off because the clamps on the attachment would not hold them in place for long.
I use the "triangular" attachment for all my cage cleaning and here's an idea I came up with... I bought a package of cheap white cotton tube socks and just pull one (or two if they're thin) over the attachment just like you would on your foot. Fold the extra "leg" part back down over the top part of the attachment and you're good to go!
You don't even need the clamps cuz they're covered by the sock, and the sock will stay in place until you're ready to change it out for a clean one. Works great!
My health situation has been very slow to improve. I recently found out that at some point in my illness I had at least two strokes from shock brought on by massive internal bleeding (the ulcers). As a result I have a permanent 40% vision blockage in my left eye and weakness in my right arm and leg.
But anyway, I'm finally strong enough to start cleaning cages again. I still get very tired easily so I can only do one cage a week... 3 down and
8 to go.. Thank goodness for my steamer! No way would I be able to move those heavy cages outside for cleaning with a hose or pressure washer. Hope this little tip is helpful to some of you! Emotion: smile

MB, That sounds like a good idea. Problem is, I don't have a triangular attachment with mine, only the rectangular one has clips. Anyway, glad you're on the mend.
When you mentioned the strokes, it made me think of Roy, as in "Siegfried & Roy." I believe that his strokes were brought on by shock and massive internal bleeding, as you describe. So, that make you a celebrity of sorts. ;-)

Heck, I wish I could claim something as "exotic" as being mauled by a rare white tiger. LOL! But noo, just your ordinary, everyday boring bleeding ulcers is my only claim to fame. :-/
Speaking of birds and cages, a little while ago while I was in the birds' room doing my daily "Mamabird duties," Treasure my male Goffin's was on his cage with his beak pressed against the window watching the blue jays fly up under the patio roof stealing their daily ration of cat food. Well, I found out I have one very confused little white bird 'cause he started yelling at the Jays, "Come'ere kitty cat! Come HERE!"
Never a dull moment! And it only hurts when I laugh..

LOL, well I guess if they eat cat food the bird figures it is called kitty
The sock idea sounds great I will try it tomorrow. I use the triangle attachment too for cleaning the bars and the rags always have been a pain to keep in place the socks sound perfect.
Sorry to hear your slow to mend, but hope you will keep improving even if it is slow progress.

Tried this today and it does work great! One of those "why didn't I ever think of that" kind of moments . If you have big feet like me, or buy the large size tube socks you can pull one over the attachment and double it back over again. Makes a nice thick cleaning pad that will not slip or fall off while you clean. Would work great for any large flat surface you want to clean with steam too. Thanks again Mamabird, and hope you continue to mend!!
