I can understand why they need tails but whiskers? Some cats like Sphynx don't have whiskers or their whiskers are very small, and they live happily nevertheless, so what's the purpose?

Most cats have them. Even if they're small and fine, they have them. I think cats that don't just rely on their other senses more.
