"Get back" only works if I scream it with lots of emotion. Frankly, it's hard on the voice and it ... for me. It's really a lot like the way a SWAT team goes through the door when we come home.

Or maybe he'll run out in the street and get hit by a car.

Frankly if you are not interested in fixing it, then don't complain about it. Dogs don't run out the front door at my house. If they try they get slung right back in, yes, even the 65# one. One thing dogs need in any training is consistency. If you just let them get away with, why should they ever try to not get away with it?
He doesn't stay back from the door if I use a normal tone of voice. He wouldn't stay back if you used a normal tone of voice.

It's called "training."

He's part husky, but mostly great pyrennes. They're an independent sort of breed. He's stubborn like you wouldn't believe. I've never seen anything like it, but he's very gentle and sweet.

I have six Siberian Huskies, not one of which does what you describe. I added two adults to the back a couple of months ago, and within a week they had learned not to rush the door, period. It's just not difficult.
I've gotta say that it's a rare day to run into somebody so completely and utterly lazy.

You must run one of those tough love camps. HAH! I'd love to see your dogs all lining up on command like a troop of soldiers.
because Goldens are supposed to spring from their fathers' foreheads fully formed and trained. didn't you get the memo?

I don't know if Janet got the memo, but Queenie certainly didn't. Although she's an eeevil black dog rather than a full Golden Retriever.

She also has no interest in retrieving anything, or in swimming.

Rescue Friday came to me at 7 months old, but he bonded immediately to 4 YO Rocky, so even though I'd changed his name, all I had to do was call for Rocky and Friday would follow in his wake.

This has* to be one of the main benefits of having two dogs. I can usually get *someone to come running, and then the other one comes along too.
